Another writing contest, another submission

I bit the bullet tonight and submitted Six-gun Apotheosis to the L. Ron Hubbard’s Writers of the Future Contest. This is a quarterly event and all entries must be received by June 30th for this quarter.

The prize pool isn’t ginormous ($1000 for first place, $750 for second, and $500 for third), but really its about more than the money for me. Also, one of the four quarterly winners will receive a $5000 additional cash prize when their story is selected as the grand prize winner. And that ain’t too shabby.

This was probably my favorite short story to write so far, and I really wanted to get it into the hands of someone who could honestly appraise what I had created. The best way to do so was to submit it to a different contest and see what happens.

And now I wait. The PNWA contest won’t announce finalists/winners until September, and that is a looonnnggg way off. Hopefully the L Ron Hubbard contest will keep the torture to a minimum…but we’ll see. I may have to find other contests to send entries to just to keep my sanity…:)

Anyway, wish me luck. I’ll find out soon enough if these stories are red-headed step-children, or if I might not totally suck at this writing thing.
