The publishing process and me…

I have an update to how the publishing of my first novel is going. SLOWLY. That’s slightly unfair, but also has a nugget of truth.

Editing has been finalized, and I cannot thank my editor Michael Waitz enough. He took the semi-coherent ramblings of a novice writer and polished it enough that it no longer resembles a turd…:) If you have any doubts about using a professional editor–don’t. It’s worth every penny.

I’ve also purchased a 10-block pf ISBN numbers for use. Why 10? Well each edition of your work will require it’s own ISBN, and if my calculations are correct (never a sure thing as I need to take off my shoes to count past ten), I will need three for each book in the trilogy. One for ebook, one for paperback, and one for hardback or audiobook. And I’ll have one left over.

Additionally, I have reached out to an artist named Christian (coversbychristian) to see if he will do the artwork I need. He has done quite a bit of work in the Urban Fantasy genre and I like his style. I have very definite ideas for what I would like to see (three of them to be exact) but will certainly allow him artistic license to do what he thinks will work best.

After that I will need to hire someone to do the formatting for ebook and print, and while this shouldn’t prove too complicated, I DO need to have a finished cover.

Adding to the complexity is the fact that all of this is new to me. Hopefully the second and third books will come to print much quicker and easier. The last month has been somewhat exhausting going through three rounds of editing, but now that it’s done I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Unfortunately, Dire Consequences won’t hit Amazon prior to the end of the year as I had hoped, but it is getting closer to being a reality. And don’t even get me started on writing blurbs…sigh
