I sent the first draft of the book cover for Dire Consequences back to Mallory for revision yesterday. There were many things I really liked about it, but I also had several tweaks that needed to be done.
Overall, she nailed the setting, amazed me with the tattoo that the main character sported (as he does in the books), and did a good job based on the questionnaire I filled out for her.
That being said, I wasn’t a huge fan of the purple tones along the perimeter of the cover and I requested they be changed to a darker blue. Additionally, the main character was far too ‘pretty’. I realize that in the book he is a 150 year old werewolf who looks 27, but he needed to be edgier. The man has not only seen some dark shit, he’s done it too. Know what I mean? I wasn’t necessarily looking for a 1000-yard stare, but his face should show some wear and tear, even some dark circles under the eyes implying difficulty sleeping and a scowl would help (weird, my MC would scowl a lot….wonder where he gets that?).
